ABOUT ME

Hello and welcome to Many Hats. I’m Louise Wiseman, a Derbyshire-based printmaker.

My love affair with print was born of a lifelong love of photography. I’ve been taking photographs as long as I can remember, but only fairly recently taken my first steps in printmaking, initially using my photos as the basis for silk screen prints. Having discovered the creative possibilities of that medium, I was instantly hooked and it’s really no exaggeration to say that it was the start of a life-changing creative journey on which every step brings new discoveries, new techniques and new ideas.

Inspiration can come from anything at any time – although, perhaps appropriately a for a ‘journey’, much tends to comes from travel - and I’m happy to go wherever it leads me. As well as screen printing I enjoy working in techniques that lend  themselves to the use of photographic images, such as cyanotype and photopolymer ‘etching’ although I also enjoy experimenting in other methods of relief and intaglio printing. There are no lofty ideals behind my work; some of it may be ‘serious’ and meaningful, some lighthearted and whimsical, but mostly it’s simply intended to be pleasing to the eye. Above all, I make images for the joy of creating them and I hope they’ll bring some of that joy to you, the people kind enough to look at them.
